Geography for Infants
At Devonshire Infant Academy we aim for our children to develop an understanding of place. This begins with an understanding of their place in their family and their local area and community, and builds toward knowledge of the United Kingdom and the wider world.
We want them to develop a sense of curiosity about people and places and the interaction between them. To become citizens of their own localities, and growing to understand what it means to be citizens of the UK and the world beyond.
We want the children to develop:
- Locational knowledge
- Place knowledge
- Human and physical geography
- Geographical skills and fieldwork
- Use of basic geographical vocabulary
Geography for Juniors
The Intent for Geography at Devonshire Junior is to provide a real, immersive and purposeful experience to the children through challenge-based learning which inspires their curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. This involves key experiences in every year group which immerses them to the geographical processesknowledge and skills needed to understand the subject area, building on prior learning and using a range of maps within atlases and the use of globes and digital software called Digimaps. Progression of knowledge and skills is directed by our procedural knowledge curriculum.
